Our sytem has the potential to be inserted into existing buildings as well. The basecamp model of 2 classrooms and shared covered space essentially stretch out in a linear bar to create a sequence of individual and collective learning spaces. The remaining areas at the ends of the building become serviced spaces and collective gathering space.
In the existing school there is a clear hierarchy of student to educator with lines of students sitting side by side, reducing chances for collective work. Once the system is inserted into the existing classroom building, students are able to arrange their workspaces in many ways within their classroom and open up to collective learning basecamp environments. The colonnade hallway is removed and circulation can now spill into the shared space creating more opportunity for interaction and spontaneous learning.
