CONCEPTUAL PROGRAM DIAGRAM
This diagram shows a few things. First, it defines the scope of intervention on the main floor of the clubhouse. The main problem with the floor now is that there is no organizing principle through the spaces. Because there is currently one carpet treatment throughout all these spaces, coupled with an abundance of entrances into the dining areas, there is a lack of structure, hierarchy and ability to control guest flow. By creating differences in the floor treatments and color palettes of individual spaces we can break up the monotony and start to define the spaces by program. We can also begin to imagine a longer term plan with this floor.
By looking at the existing ceiling treatments we can see obvious lines to break the Runyan Room up into. In general we can say the Acton Room can become the lounge/bar area that is the loudest space and most casual. Eventually this space can close off entirely from the Runyan Room in the future and have it’s own entry from the inside as well as from the practice putting area. The Runyan Room can be divided into zones. These zones can follow the existing articulation of the ceiling and can connect the bar to the dual flanking entries off the practice putting area. The central band of the Runyan Room can be a harder floor (likely with rugs on top of it). This will create a center to the space and will also hold up better with members coming in off the practice putting area. This also can leave the 28th hole to be the most formal seating, the quietest space with the ability to close itself off from the rest of the space very easily.
